Movie BETTER than the book?!....

I've been doing some reading of books that are based on movies or have movies based on them. So far I have actually come across a fair amount of them where the MOVIE is actually better than the book. In my opinion anyway.
The first movie that I feel is better than the book is The Searchers. The book is alright....It's not terrible but defiantely isn't 5 boots that's for sure. It doesn't paint a vivid picture for me at all....while I was reading the book I just could NOT get excited about it. The MOVIE on the other hand....Now that's a whole new ball of wax. The director of the movie took this alright book and turned it into a AWESOME movie. The movie DEFINATELY paints a vivid picture of the "old west" and what it must have been like for women back in those days.
Another movie that I think is better than the book is Gettysburg. The movie is based on the book The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The book is great....Definately 5 boots worthy. But when I watch the actual movie I feel like I'm actually there as the battle is taking place...more so than when I read the book.
Those are just two examples that I've come across recently. There are more but that is NOT the purpose of this post. The purpose of this post is to ask these questions....Have you seen a movie that is based on a book where the movie is actually BETTER than the book? If you have, which movie and what book is it based on?

Although many may not agree with me, I think that the movie version of A Walk to Remember is waaayy better than the book.

@elizabeth
I totally agree with you on A Walk to Remember! LOVED the movie but was only lukewarm on the book!

One of my favorite movies, Practical Magic, is better than the book, in my opinion. I read the book a couple of years after seeing the movie and while I liked the book, I still loved the movie more. This is rare, but it does happen on occasion.

Mansfield Park! for sure. the version with Francis Conner. In the book Fanny is downright boring, but in the movie you can't help but adore Fanny.

I haven't seen either of these.

Hannah: I luv Francis Conner :)

The book that sticks out in my head is "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas...I thought the movie in 2002 was better. Of course, the book was written in like 1844..but I found the story much better in the movie than in the book.

I thought The Notebook was a better movie than book. It could be because I've had a huge crush on Ryan Gosling since he was a mouseketeer ;)

I'd say that The Horse Whisperer was better than the book. The book had THE worst ending.

I'd also say Jurassic Park. It wasn't the special effects, it was the fact that the director/writers put women in a more important position than the book had. They were so wimpy in the book, I just hated that.

Only one's that come immediately to mind.

Wow that's a tough one. I'll go with Queen of the Damned and TAG! You're it!
