I realized I hadn't done a discussion post in a little while so I thought I'd change it up a little bit and occasionally post a discussion question. The question this time around is this.....
What attracts you to a book? Is it the hype? The cover? What the synopsis says? The reviews (glowing, mixed, etc.)? Blogger recommendation?
For me it depends. Like for example, I recently went out and bought The Hunger Games books because I read all sorts of AWESOME reviews about the books themselves. But there are others that I have purchased simply because I enjoyed the synopsis on the book and it had me really interested to see what happens through out the whole story. I've read a couple that have been recommended to me by other bloggers, some were really good and some not so much. I guess I'm a little bit of a mixed bag when it comes to what attracts me to a book!

Since I started blogging it is usually the hype/reviews. If I've read more than a few glowing reviews I mark it off as I gotta get it.
Blogger reviews are my number one source of new books. Beyond that, my major resource for discovery is Amazon and Library Thing recommendations. Those will at least get me to read the synopsis.
@parajunkee
I must remember that! Note to self: more than a few glowing reviews must check it out!
@Jennifer
I've not heard of Library thing...Must find more out about it!
I am initially attracted by the cover. Then I search reviews to see if its worth my time.
I like good hype but if a book is too popular with my fellow bloggers I place it on the back burner for later. I like when my blog has something others aren't reading.
That happened to me with Hunger Games and I ended up being so bummed that I waited so long.
For me it's the blurb. It's got to grab my attention right away. Everything else, cover, excerpts and reviews is second to the blurb.
@Juju
I have so many that were popular in the bloggy community it's not even funny!
@Lily
It's usually the blurb for me too...8 out of 10 times. Thanks for stopping by!
Most of the time it's the cover that I buy a book for. Recommendations made by my friends would be the other reason for my purchasing a book. Blogger recommendations have started making a dent, though, too but i haven't acted on any of them yet.
Yah but you rock and are always reading something mad fresh ;)
